Ashley Cole should have been selected for England - Alan Hansen

Match of the Day pundit Alan Hansen describes Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole as "one of the greatest" players in Premier League history, and says he would have selected him for the World Cup squad.

Left-back Cole announced his retirement from international football on Sunday after being left out of Roy Hodgson's England World Cup squad.

The 33-year-old won 107 caps and played at three World Cups.

It is believed that Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, 18, will be included when the 23-man squad, plus seven standby players, is announced on Monday.
