England midfielder Frank Lampard says the negative media surrounding Wayne Rooney is detrimental to the squad as a whole.

Rooney has been criticised in some quarters for his performance in England's 2-1 defeat to Italy on Saturday.

He is expected to be selected again when England play their crucial second Group D against Uruguay on Thursday.
