The Belgians rarely threatened until late on and although they are out, their run to the quarter-finals is their best performance since 1986.
Argentina have reached their first World Cup semi-final since finishing as runners-up in 1990.
The South American side will face the Netherlands in the semi-finals on Wednesday, 9 July, after they beat Costa Rica on penalties.
