Van Gaal: World Cup penalty substitution was pre-planned
Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal reveals that he always planned to bring Tim Krul on for the penalty shootout against Costa Rica.
Van Gaal brought Krul on for Jasper Cillessen in added time at the end of 120 minutes, and the Newcastle keeper saved from Bryan Ruiz and Michael Umana to send the Dutch through 4-3 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in Salvador.
Van Gaal says it was a collective decision to make the change, while Krul himself says it was a moment he had dreamed about since he was a child.
