Steven Gerrard: MOTD2 Extra pundits on Liverpool captain's future

Following Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard's omission from the line-up against Stoke on Saturday, Match of the Day 2 Extra pundit Mark Lawrenson says boss Brendan Rodgers is the first to manage the midfielder "on the way down".

Presenter Mark Chapman describes it as "sensible management", while Lawrenson says Liverpool are still a "better team with him than without him".

The Reds beat Stoke 1-0 on the 16th anniversary of Gerrard's Liverpool first-team debut, with the 34-year-old left out having played at Ludogorets in the Champions League on Wednesday.
