Barcelona team-mate Ivan Rakitic and MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez make the case for Lionel Messi to win the 2014 Fifa Ballon d'Or.

Messi broke the La Liga goal-scoring record in 2014 and became the Uefa Champions League's all-time leading goalscorer.

Cristiano Ronaldo successfully defended his world player of the year status convincingly in Zurich with 37.66% of all votes. Messi was second on 15.76%, narrowly ahead of Manuel Neuer, who had 15.72%
