Ballon d'Or 2014: Cristiano Ronaldo named world's best player

Cristiano Ronaldo beats Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer to claim the 2014 Fifa Ballon d'Or at a ceremony in Zurich.

The Portuguese star successfully defended his world player of the year status convincingly with 37.66% of all votes, with Messi second on 15.76%, narrowly ahead of Neuer on 15.72%.

Ronaldo's Real Madrid team-mate James Rodriguez won the Puskas award for best goal of 2014 with German football sweeping the other main awards.

Germany coach Joachim Low won men's coach of the year, VFL Wolfsburg's boss Ralf Kellermann won women's coach of the year and Wolfsburg's German international Nadine Kessler picked up the award for best female player.
