Women's World Cup: Laura Bassett reflects on 'heartbreaking' own goal

England defender Laura Bassett talks at length to the BBC about coming to terms with her own goal which knocked the Lionesses out of the Women's World Cup.

Describing the moment she realised she had conceded a goal to Japan, she said: "I couldn't breathe, my heart was out of my chest, I just wanted the ground to open up and swallow me in."

The 31-year-old Notts County player has been hailed a hero by her manager Mark Sampson. But an emotional Bassett said: "the hardest thing for me is looking at other people and their families, and everyone who has committed themselves to this dream. I would prefer no-one to know my name."

England face Germany in the third-fourth place play-off in Edmonton at 21:00 BST on Saturday, with full coverage across BBC Sport.
