Former footballer Chris Sutton says homophobic fans are 'moronic'

Former footballer Chris Sutton believes homophobic fans that said they would not watch their team if they fielded a gay player are "moronic".

An online poll of more than 4,000 people across England, Wales and Scotland conducted by research company ComRes found that 8% of supporters said they would not watch their team if they fielded a gay player.

"These are the people we should be dealing with and this eight percent, they shouldn't be allowed in football grounds as far as I'm concerned,” said former Celtic striker Sutton.

"It's absolutely bonkers that in our society that we can let people like this dictate whether somebody should come out or not."

More than 82% of fans said they would be comfortable with their club signing a gay player.
