Mick McCarthy: Online abuse has 'awful effect', says Cardiff City boss

Cardiff City manager Mick McCarthy says online abuse has an "awful effect" on people and insists footballers should be able to use social media safely.

A number of football governing bodies have urged Facebook and Twitter to do more to protect players after a succession of incidents in recent weeks.

McCarthy believes the "appalling" abuse must be stopped.
