BBC Sport looks back at some memorable moments from an incident-packed start to Pastor Maldonado's Formula 1 career as it is confirmed that the Venezuelan driver will join Lotus for the 2014 season.
Maldonado replaces Kimi Raikkonen, who will drive for Ferrari next season, and has won his seat largely because the team need an injection of funds.
The 28-year-old made his grand prix debut for Williams in 2011 after winning the GP2 championship the previous year, and took his maiden F1 pole and win at the Spanish Grand Prix in May 2012.
