Hamilton started sixth after making a mistake in aborting his final qualifying lap, with his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg on pole - but revived his title hopes as Rosberg retired with a gearbox failure.

Hamilton's win put him joint-second on the all-time list of British Grand Prix winners with 27, level with Sir Jackie Stewart, he has gone on to pass Nigel Mansell's record of 31 and currently has 37 race wins.
