Watch: The curious journey of the MacRory Cup trophy
Ulster Schools' GAA secretary Seamus Woods explains the curious history behind the MacRory Cup trophy as the competition celebrates its centenary.
While the current trophy is the third iteration of the MacRory Cup, it is actually older than its two predecessors.
However, having originally been commissioned for horse racing, it sat in the basement of a Dublin jewellers for 50 years before it took on a new life as the prize for winning Ulster Schools GAA's premier competition in 2011.
Ulster Schools' GAA secretary Seamus Woods was speaking to BBC Sport NI's Mark Sidebottom on a night when St Macartan's Monaghan beat St Patrick's Armagh in this year's MacRory Cup, 100 years to the day since they met in the tournament's first ever match.
