Menelik Watson grew up surrounded by a traumatic atmosphere of gang violence in inner-city Manchester. Some of his friends are still in prison. He suffered desperate poverty too: "I didn't even have the money to buy a packet of crisps."

But the ardent Manchester City fan kept out of trouble through sport, and continued to chase his dreams even after doctors told him he would never play sport again when he shattered his ankle playing football.

After making it to the United States, Watson played college football for Florida State University and was then chosen by the Oakland Raiders in the 2013 NFL Draft - something that millions of youngsters all over the world dream of.
