Olympics 2012: Gareth Evans sets three personal bests

Weightlifter Gareth Evans sets three new personal bests in the men's 69kg event at 2012 London, although the British records narrowly evade him.

The Welshman lifted 130kg at ExCeL - overtaking his previous personal best of 126kg - but failed at his attempt at 133kg, which would have beaten Stewart Cruikshank's 10-year-old British record of 132.5kg.

Evans, then made light work of 158kg in the clean and jerk, beating his previous personal best by three kilos, but again came up just short in his final lift of 160kg. His overall total of 288kg eclipses his previous best of 277kg, with Cruikshank's British record standing at 297.5kg.

The 26 year-old of Holyhead, was eighth overall in Group B, but hopes to win gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in two years time.
