Defending Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington qualifies fastest for the 800m freestyle final.

Adlington clocks a time of eight minutes 21.78 seconds, 11 hundredths of a second quicker than her biggest rival Lotte Friis of Denmark.

Earlier young Briton Ellie Faulkner missed out on a place in Friday's final, finishing sixth in her heat.
