Leigh Halfpenny's boot is the difference as Wales and Italy score two tries each in a 23-15 win for the home side in their opening Six Nations match in Cardiff.
Alex Cuthbert got the defending champions off to the best possible start with a try inside five minutes before Scott Williams gave Wales a 14 point lead at half-time.
Italy answered back with two scores from Italian centre Michele Campagnaro who was voted the man-of the match but it was not quite enough.
