Ruan Pienaar thanks Ulster fans after 'emotional week'

Ruan Pienaar is moved by the reception he receives in Ulster's opening Pro12 29-8 win over the Dragons after this week's news that the IRFU will not be extending his contract with the province.

Ulster said earlier this week that they had done everything in their power to attempt to convince the IRFU to agree to a further contract extension for the Springboks star Pienaar, 32.

"Emotionally, it's been a tough week for me and my family," said the South African, who wanted to extend his seven-season stay at the Irish province.

"But it's pleasing to get the win and great to get a reception like this," added Pienaar who was greeted by banners of support at Friday's game at Kingspan Stadium.

"I have been here for so long. I feel part of the furniture now. I love this club. I love this city and all the people here. It (the reception) meant a lot to me.

"For me, it's all about the team and the next 10 months here. Putting up good performances and just enjoying the time I've got left in the jersey."
