Watch: Ulster's James Hume had to face down 'ego' during injury battle
Ulster centre James Hume says his recovery from a serious groin injury was as much a mental as a physical battle.
Hume, who won three Ireland caps in 2021 and 2022, worked with Ulster Rugby's psychologist Darren Devaney and says changes in his attitude were vital to getting his career back on track.
"It was very egotistical and naïve not to look for help," Hume, 25, told BBC Sport NI.
"Thinking I could do it myself because anytime I’ve come back from an injury before, it’s been me who got myself to where I needed to be again but kind of admitting that I needed help from our psychologist Darren, got me accepting that I needed to address the failures and the hard times so I could move on."
