Sir Ben Ainslie's Oracle Team USA came back from 8-1 down to seal one of sports greatest comebacks by beating Team New Zealand in the America's Cup decider in San Francisco.

The holders, with Britain's four-time Olympic champion brought in as tactician, won eight consecutive races to triumph 9-8 after being docked two points for illegal modifications in the build-up to the race.

The winners of the event will decide the format and venue of the 35th America's Cup, the oldest trophy in international sport.
