Tai Woffinden wants to break world speedway titles record

World speedway champion Tai Woffinden tells BBC Midlands Today that after winning his second title, he wants to now go on and break the all-time record.

The 25-year-old former Wolves rider, who lives in North Staffordshire, was in Birmingham this week to hand over a cheque for £105,000 raised through his work for Great Ormond Street Hospital's Children's Charity.

And he told BBC Midlands Today's Nick Clitheroe he is already targeting the record of six world titles set by the great Ivan Mauger and matched by Sweden's Tony Rickardsson in 2005.

"I want to be the best ever," he said. "I need to win one more to be the best-ever UK rider (Liverpool's Peter Craven also won it twice, in 1955 and 1962). Then the best ever in the world was six, so I guess I need to go one better and do seven."

Woffinden's work for Great Ormond Street will fund an ensuite bedroom to allow families to stay with their sick children in greater comfort during their treatment.
