Rebecca Adlington: British swimming is in a mess

Rebecca Adlington says she "doesn't understand" why a British coach was not appointed before British Swimming initiated a review following Great Britain's disappointing performance in the pool at the London 2012 Games.

Adlington, who won two bronze medals at the London Games to add to the two gold medals she won in Beijing in 2008 says the sport in the country is in a "mess" and that none of the swimmers "knows who to turn to".

Head coach Dennis Pursley quit after GB fell short of its target of five to seven medals at London 2012, collecting just three, and British Swimming's performance director Michael Scott quit soon after Pursley, leaving Britain's national team without two key figures.
