Keothavong, Ward, Baltacha, Edmund, Murray, Konta out of Wimbledon

British players Anne Keothavong, James Ward, Elena Baltacha, Kyle Edmund, Samantha Murray and Johanna Konta all suffer first round singles defeats at Wimbledon.

Ward was the only player to win a set as he lost 6-7 6-4 6-7 6-7 to Yen-Hsun Lu, whilst Keothavong was beaten by teenage Spaniard Garbine Muguruza.

Despite a bright start, wildcard Baltacha fell away to a straight sets defeat to Italy's Flavia Pennetta, with 18-year-old Kyle Edmund beaten by Polish 14th seed Jerzy Janowicz.

Elsewhere, Samantha Murray lost 6-3 6-4 to Italian Camila Giorgi and Johanna Konta lost 6-2 7-5 to former world number one Jelena Jankovic.
