Triathlon World Series: Jonny Brownlee beaten by Javier Gomez in Cape Town

Great Britain's Jonny Brownlee is comfortably beaten by Spain's Javier Gomez at the ITU Triathlon World Series in Cape Town, the second successive race he has lost to the reigning world champion.

Gomez, who won the season opener in Auckland ahead of Brownlee, pulled away with a devastating burst of pace to finish 19 seconds ahead of the Olympic bronze medallist, with Russia's Dmitry Polyanskiy third.

Brownlee says Gomez was "very impressive" and counter-attacked him at every stage of the race.
