Wales netball coach Melissa Hyndman targets world top five

Melissa Hyndman, high performance head coach of Welsh Netball, says the Commonwealth Games will be Wales' opportunity to reach the top five in the world.

Wales are currently ranked eighth in the world after winning gold at last year's European Championship in Aberdeen.

That secured their place at Glasgow 2014 having failed to qualify for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

"Now we have to recreate what we did in 2013 for 2014," Hyndman told BBC Radio Wales Sport.

"The Commonwealth Games is our opportunity to get top five in the world and that's where I know Wales can be."

The New Zealander, who moved to Wales in 2010, says the Commonwealth Games is the "pinnacle" for every netball player.

Hyndman also coaches the Celtic Dragons and says their season in Superleague will be good preparation for Wales' Commonwealth Games campaign.

The Dragons, who lost to Team Bath in last season's Grand Final, begin the new Superleague campaign away to Hertfordshire Mavericks on 30 January.
