Glasgow 2014: Imogen Bankier partners Kirsty Gilmour for Scots

Imogen Bankier will partner Kirsty Gilmour for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Gilmour, 20, is Scotland's leading badminton women's singles player.

Bankier, 26, has partnered Bulgaria Petya Nedelcheva in recent events, reaching the top 25 in the rankings.

"It's been really good for me because previously I didn't play much women's doubles," Bankier told BBC Scotland. "I've had to change my game and raise my level."

The duo will begin their competitive Games' preparation at next week's Wales Open.

After a disappointing Olympics with English mixed doubles partner Chris Adcock, Bankier quit Great Britain's programme last year to focus on Glasgow 2014.

"The ladies doubles is quite open at the Commonwealth Games, I wouldn't say there was a stand-out pair," she added.

"The important thing is seeding. If we can get a good seeding it should be relatively comfortable to reach the quarter-finals - and from that stage that's when you hope home advantage comes into play."

The full Scotland team will not be released until next year but Gilmour is sure to be playing in the singles and is enjoying the prospect of playing with Bankier.

"We need to hit the ground running," said Gilmour. "It's a real challenge but it's going to be a good experience.

"It will be a hard slog between now and July but I am looking forward to it."
