World Indoor Bowls: Darren Burnett beats Mervyn King in final

Scotland's Darren Burnett edged out home favourite Mervyn King 2-1 in a tense final at the World Indoor Bowls Championships in Great Yarmouth.

King won the opening set 7-5 but Arbroath policeman Burnett took the next two sets 10-8 and 2-1 to triumph.

Burnett, who knocked out 2013 winner Stewart Anderson in the quarter-finals, felt he held his nerve under pressure.

"We both played below ourselves but I got the big bowls. I was nervous but got over the line," Burnett said.

"I came down to the tournament not in great form and I just wanted to get through the very first match and things have just gone from there."

"It will take a few days for it all to sink in. I was playing at my peak a few years ago and thought my opportunity had gone."

Norfolk's King, who won the championship in 2006, conceded that Burnett had deserved the title after he fought back.

"I played well but Darren played some big bowls under pressure," King said.

"I never thought I'd get to the final and it would have been nice to won but fair play to Darren he deserved to win."
