Sean McComb impresses in World Championships victory

Sean McComb secured a place in the last 16 at the World Amateur Championships with a dominant display against Gildas Bangana in Kazakhstan on Sunday.

The Belfast lightweight cruised to a unanimous 30-27, 30-26, 30-26 win over his Central African Republic opponent.

McComb will now take on Azerbaijan's Elvin Isayev in Almaty on Tuesday.

Fellow Belfast fighters Michael Conlan, Paddy Barnes and Tommy McCarthy have also progressed to the last 16 stage of the tournament.

Conlan made the last 16 after a comfortable victory over Hungary's Kriszthan Nagy on Saturday.

The Belfast bantamweight eased to a unanimous 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 win to set up a contest with Brian Gonzalez of Mexico.

Donegal's Jason Quigley is also through to the last 16 in the middleweight category.

The European champion defeated India's Vijender Singh 30-26,30-26 and 28-28 in Almaty.

Tipperary super-heavyweight Con Sheehan was beaten on a unanimous decision by Cuban Yohanndi Ortega on Saturday.
