Carl Frampton to fight Hugo Cazares in world title eliminator

Belfast fighter Carl Frampton will take on Mexican Hugo Cazares in a final world title eliminator at the Odyssey Arena on Friday, 4 April.

Victory for the super-bantamweight would set up a world title showdown with WBC champion Leo Santa Cruz.

Cazares, 35, has won 33 of his 40 fights and is a former world champion at super-flyweight and light-flyweight.

Frampton has won all 17 of his professional fights

Frampton relinquished his European and Commonwealth belts in November in his bid to secure a world title fight.

Cazares tops the current WBC rankings with 26-year-old Frampton at the number two.

"Hugo Cazares is a former two-weight world champion from Mexico who brings a lot of experience and skill with him," said Frampton.

"I can't wait to get back in front of the amazing Belfast crowd and secure my shot at the WBC world title.

"I have progressed so much in the last 12 months both in the boxing ring and out of it.

"I believe the next 12 months will bring me even more success and more importantly the world title."

Unbeaten Frampton retained the European title in October as he stopped Frenchman Jeremy Parodi in six rounds.
