Scott Quigg and Jamie McDonnell retain titles in Liverpool

Bury's Scott Quigg now has a fight record of 30 wins (22 KOs), 0 defeats and 2 draws

Britain's Scott Quigg defended his WBA world super-bantamweight title with a unanimous points win over Japan's Hidenori Otake.

Despite sustaining a large cut to the right eyebrow, Otake was able to take the bout to the judges, who scored it 119-109 119-109 118-110 to Quigg.

Quigg, 26, now has 30 career wins and has successfully defended his world title for a fifth time.

"He took all my shots. Fair play to him, he was a tough man," said Quigg.

Manager Eddie Hearn confirmed the victory over Otake was Quigg's last action of the year, with IBF super-bantamweight champion Carl Frampton a potential next opponent.

"Scott has earned a holiday over Christmas, but we're looking at 28 March in Manchester," said Quigg. "It takes two to tango, we want those big fights and we're pushing for them all the time."

Earlier in the evening, Jamie McDonnell retained his WBA world bantamweight title with a 10th-round stoppage of Argentine Javier Chacon, who retired with a damaged shoulder.

McDonnell's win sets up a March unification fight against Japan's WBO champion Tomoki Kameda in Las Vegas.

"That's where my future is, in a big unification fight next year. I am going to bring another world title back to Britain." said McDonnell.
