Joshua Buatsi v Dan Azeez: British light-heavyweight contest rescheduled for February

The all-British light-heavyweight fight between Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez has been rescheduled for Saturday, 3 February at Wembley's OVO Arena.

Azeez has recovered from a back injury which caused the fight to be postponed in October.

The unbeaten pair will contest a world title final eliminator for the right to meet WBA champion Dmitry Bivol.

The fight was originally set to take place at London's O2 Arena but has been moved because of limited availability.

"I'm excited to get a new date locked in," Buatsi said.

"There's definitely some unfinished business. The delay has only made me more determined. It's a very important fight."

The Londoners, who are friends outside the ring, started out at the same amateur boxing club in south London.

Azeez - the English, Commonwealth and European champion - has 20 straight wins under his belt as a pro, while 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Buatsi, 30, has won all 17 of his pro fights.

"I'm really glad to have recovered. My back feels better than ever and I can't wait," Azeez said.

Boxxer promotions was hoping to reschedule it for 13 January at the O2 Arena but the date clashed with Briton Callum Smith's world-title challenge against WBC, IBF and WBO light-heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev in Canada. Azeez's coach, Buddy McGirt, also trains Liverpool's Smith.

"It's a fight everyone is looking forward to following the disappointment of the postponement in October," said Boxxer chief executive Ben Shalom.

"We wanted to get the fight back on as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the only available date at the O2 was 13 January, which would leave Dan Azeez without his coach for his biggest fight, so we've secured the next available date."
