European super-bantamweight champion Liam Davies said he is prepared to go to Japan and fight Naoya Inoue if it means getting a shot at a world title.

Davies, 27, defends his European belt in Manchester on Saturday against Italy's Vincenzo La Femina.

If he comes through it, Davies is eyeing a trip to the Far East.

"I wouldn't mind going to Japan for a fight. I know they pay millions of pounds and that would set me up for life," he said.

Inoue puts his WBC and WBO belts on the line against WBA and IBF champion Marlon Tapales of the Philippines on, appropriately, Boxing Day in Tokyo.

Should he win that, Inoue would become a two-weight undisputed champion after unifying all four titles at bantamweight.

That would equal American Terrence Crawford's record but Davies think the lure of moving up a division and trying to become the first man to be undisputed king at three different weights may scupper his hopes of a bout.

"I see Inoue winning and I wouldn't be surprised if he moved up as there's never been an undisputed three-weight world champion," Davies told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"If I were him, I'd be doing that and taking the history."

In the immediate future, Davies is focusing on matters in Manchester at the weekend as he faces mandatory challenger La Femina

The Telford fighter comes into the fight in fine shape after his opening-round destruction of Jason Cunningham in July.

And he is confident Saturday's contest will not detain him too long.

"The quicker the better and I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't last that much longer," he said.

"This one's come around so quick and it's good because you can keep the momentum.

"I've managed to enjoy a week or two off and then get back to it - which has done me very well and I think that'll show on Saturday night."

'I am the best in the country'

Talk of a possible domestic showdown with former Commonwealth champion Dennis McCann is still in the equation but Davies is not that interested.

He said McCann's recent draw for the WBO intercontinental title with Ionut Baluta - whom he beat to win the European crown in the summer - shows that's not a fight on his radar.

"I beat Baluta and he struggled so much against him - proves my point that I am the best in the country," Davies said.

"I would rather a world title now - that's the one belt I haven't won. Those guys need me. I don't need them.

"There is no plan B. This is it for me now career-wise so this is my way to make something and be able to look back in years to come and have no regrets.

"I feel like now is the time for these big tests. It's going to be hard for these guys to beat me.

"The biggest task would be Inoue and that's a fight I'd definitely be up for."
