Super-featherweight Royston Barney-Smith has revealed that he has been forced to withdraw from next Saturday's boxing event in Bournemouth.

The 21-year-old from Southampton had been scheduled to fight for the WBC International Silver super-featherweight belt against the Argentinian Elias Federico Duguet.

"Unfortunately, due to illness and injury, I have had to reschedule my fight," he posted on his Instagram account.

"I will no longer be boxing on 1 March, but a new date is already pencilled in, news coming soon.

"New date, same goal."

Barney-Smith had been set to fight on the undercard of fellow Southampton man Ryan Garner, who takes on Spaniard Salvador Jimenez for the European title at the Bournemouth International Centre.

The Dorset born "Sugar Boy Roy", as Barney-Smith is known, was unbeaten in 2024, winning five fights, three of them by knockout.

He is trained by coach Ben Davison, who also looks after the likes of former world champion Anthony Joshua, current British heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley, and exciting heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma.

Barney-Smith is promoted and managed by Frank Warren and Queensberry Promotions.
