Worried if Chris Billam-Smith is nervous? Well, here he is talking pre-fight about the job at hand. He's ready, there's no doubt about that.

"It's hard not to be relaxed in this chair - I'm going to get one for home," he said to Sky Sports. "All the work is done, we just need to relax now.

"It builds slowly, I'm focused, we are here and ready to do a job. The switch won't be flicked fully until hands are wrapped.

"It feels like a big fight, it feels huge, you have American media and Golden Boy, it feels like a big fight so it's exciting."

Hello from ringside in the Venue Arena.

It's been a busy week here in Riyadh leading up to tonight's action-packed night of boxing, headlined by two cruiserweight champions fighting for the chance to hold two belts at the same time.

Briton and WBO champion Chris Billam-Smith has his eyes set on Gilberto Ramirez' WBA title.

Will the career-long cruiserweight CBS be too much for 'Zurdo' or will it be Ramirez who comes out on top? He became the first-ever Mexican to win a cruiserweight world championship title back in March.

We will find out tonight, the Venue Arena has been transformed with building works going on until the final hour to get this place ready for "Latino Night".

  3. Who is Ramirez?published at 21:08 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November

    Billam-Smith v Ramirez

Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez is the man standing in the way of Chris Billam-Smith and another world title.

Many rate the Mexican as the slight favourite in this unification bout with his only loss in a massive 47 fights coming against none other than Dmitry Bivol in 2022.

The 33-year-old created history in 2016 when he beat Arthur Abraham to become the first Mexican to win a super-middleweight world title. He then became the first Mexican to win a cruiserweight world title when he defeated Arsen Goulamirian in March 2024.

    Billam-Smith v Ramirez

For the first time, Chris Billam-Smith has left the UK for a fight. When he returns to Bournemouth, he'll either be a former world champion or he'll have the WBA belt to add to his WBO title.

"I know my pocket of support will be nice and loud on fight night," Billam-Smith told BBC Sport.

"I'll be sure to silence Zurdo's section of support. It's amazing that a few people have made the trip over, it's such a long way and not cheap either.

"I'm really grateful and this is what drives me, I got into the sport for hearing people chant your name and it is a special feeling."

  5. 'It would be a Cinderella story'published at 21:00 Greenwich Mean Time 16 November

    Billam-Smith v Ramirez

No one knows Chris Billam-Smith's boxing capabilities like trainer Shane McGuigan.

The Bournemouth native is looking to become the first Briton to unify since David Haye and McGuigan has been with him every step of the way.

"It would be a Cinderella story if he can win. It already is one," McGuigan said.

"We've got this far, he's changed his life financially and goes in the history books as being a world champion, he can beat Ramirez and he will win the fight.

"That being said I don't want too many more of these training camps, he's a friend and you can only keep winning and putting your body through so much, and you can only bite down on the gum shield so many times.

"I know that this is not the night it catches up with him but I don't want to see that happen - I want to see him go out with his brain still intact, he's got a beautiful family."
