Glasgow 2014: Zane Duquemin 'honoured' to represent Jersey

Zane Duquemin will compete at his second Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

Shot and discus thrower Zane Duquemin has said he feels honoured to represent Jersey at the Commonwealth Games.

The 22-year-old also qualifies for England but has opted to compete for the island side at the Games in Glasgow.

"It is the highest standard of competition I could compete for representing Jersey," he told BBC Radio Jersey.

"It is a great honour for me and I'm hoping to do the island proud."

It is the second time Duquemin will compete for Jersey at the Commonwealth Games, having taken part in Delhi four years ago, where he finished 10th and 12th in the discus and shot put respectively.

However, he believes Glasgow is the first time he will be competitive in a big event.

Duquemin, who won the discus at the British Championships in June with a throw of 60.38m, is hoping for a repeat performance in Glasgow.

A distance 60.64m was enough for Carl Myerscough to secure a bronze medal for England at the last Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

"In terms of representing my island at a big event, it is the first time I am going to be competitive and I am looking forward to it," added Duquemin.

"I've thrown over 60m in the discus for the last three competitions so I know I'm in good shape. I haven't really connected with the shot put this season so a season's best is definitely on the cards."
