Zoe Smith won Commonwealth silver for England in the women's -63kg weightlifting after compatriot Jack Oliver took silver in the men's -77kg.
Smith won gold in the women's -58kg in 2014 in Glasgow, and returned with a composed performance in the higher weight category despite a back injury.
Smith, who had not trained for weeks, said: "The flight here was horrendous.
"Right up until the moment I started warming up today, I did not expect to make it onto the platform."
Smith, 23, snatched 92kg before a clean and jerk of 115kg to post 207kg. Maude Charron of Canada eased to gold with a 220kg total and Mona Pretorius of South Africa took bronze.
Northern Ireland's Emma McQuaid finished just outside the medals in fourth, with Holly Knowles of Wales in ninth, having set a personal best.
Earlier on Saturday, 27-year-old Oliver improved on in his fourth place at Glasgow 2014 with a silver medal behind India's Sathish Kumar Sivalingam.
"It's about time I did it, it's my third games," said Oliver, who has battled injuries over the past two years. "A silver medal feels just as good as a gold to me, I can't believe it.
"To go through all that and to be here, I'm proud of myself.
"I only started training again in March 2017 and I had to qualify by October. I had six months to go from an arm that I couldn't straighten, to qualifying. That was the hardest bit and I didn't want to waste that hard work."
Love of weightlifting keeps Smith going
Smith came to Australia aiming for a second straight Commonwealth Games title, but having endured a torrid time since dislocating her shoulder in 2015, silver represents a remarkable achievement for the 2012 Olympian.
She missed the Rio 2016 Olympics to have shoulder surgery, lost her funding and had to take up full-time work in a coffee shop to fund her Commonwealth Games bid, while studying for A-Levels.
She has exams when she returns and plans to continue on to Birmingham 2022, via the Tokyo Olympics.
"I probably need to go and open a book and prepare for those exams," she added. "I've been out here a couple of weeks and only glanced over them.
"Funding isn't why I do this. It's always been about my love of weightlifting. I'm going to carry on doing that with funding or not."
Smith was in a fierce tussle for silver with Pretorius and posted six clean lifts in a determined performance as she pushed the South African into bronze.
Oliver led his competition by one kilogram at the halfway stage having snatched 145kg, before posting 167kg in the clean and jerk.
He had his final lift of 171kg overturned by the judges, but Sivalingam took gold with a 173kg lift on his second attempt.
