Friends Life t20, Taunton

Somerset 172-3 beat Glamorgan 166-8 by seven wickets

Marcus Trescothick and Craig Meschede hit half-centuries as Somerset cruised to a seven-wicket FL t20 win over Glamorgan at Taunton.

Having lost wickets regularly, Glamorgan were grateful to 47 from Chris Cooke for helping them to 166-8.

But that never looked like being enough after Trescothick (58 off 28 balls) and Meschede (53 off 28) put on 73 for the second wicket in just six overs.

Jos Buttler sealed victory with a six as Somerset won with 26 balls to spare.

Trescothick's half-century means he is currently the leading run scorer in both first-class and Twenty20 cricket this summer.

POST-MATCH REACTION

BBC Wales cricket correspondent Edward Bevan:

"Glamorgan were outplayed in every department by Somerset, who easily reached their target with 4.2 overs to spare.

"After electing to bat first, Glamorgan's hopes of a big total were undone by the loss of Mark Cosgrove and Jim Allenby in the first three overs.

"Chris Cooke top-scored with 47 and Alviro Petersen hit 35 but it proved inadequate against the brilliance of Marcus Trescothick.

"When the former England opener was out, Somerset needed just 66 to win."
