Worcestershire batsman Moeen Ali believes that he can become a genuine all-rounder.

Moeen, 24, who joined the county from neighbours Warwickshire in 2007, has taken just 33 first-class wickets in 57 matches at 62.06 with his off-spin.

But he told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "My bowling is coming on nicely.

"I feel a lot more confident. My control is there and it's now just about having one or two variations. I feel I've bowled well this year."

Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes agrees that Moeen is capable of becoming a frontline bowler.

"I don't see him as a batsman who bowls," said Rhodes. "I think he is a genuine all-rounder.

"When Gareth Batty left, I saw it as an ideal opportunity to give somebody a go.

"It is going to take time, and it is a very difficult skill. But he is already a good spinner and he can only get better.

"And he has a top guy to learn from, with Saeed Ajmal here for a long spell this summer, external."
