Nottinghamshire celebrate after Stuart Broad dismisses Marcus Trescothick

Notts and Somerset go into the final day of their Championship match with proceedings delicately poised.

Notts were all out for 492 as Alex Hales (184) made a career best before falling to Charl Willoughby (3-115).

Andre Adams celebrated signing a new two-year contract by smashing three sixes in making 33 off 15 balls.

Trailing by 106 from first innings, Marcus Trescothick scored a rapid 86 but was dismissed by Stuart Broad, as Somerset closed 91 ahead on 197-2.

Notts began the day on 303-5 and their last five wickets added 242 to take them to maximum batting points for only the second time this season.

Hales and Chris Read (48) took their partnership to 106 for the sixth wicket before the latter, who had earlier hit a pulled six off Adam Dibble, was trapped lbw by Peter Trego (2-85).

Paul Franks hit six fours in making 28 off 32 balls, while Broad found the boundary ropes three times in 21 from 17 balls, as Notts upped the tempo.

After Hales was caught behind off a Willoughby delivery that climbed on him, there was still time for Adams to hit a typical cameo of 33, which included his 25th, 26th and 27th sixes of the Championship season, before Willoughby removed his leg stump.

With a 106-run deficit to make up, Trescothick needed no time to get into his stride with two cut shots to the backward point boundary off Broad's opening over.

The England man was withdrawn from the attack after his first four overs went for 30.

Adams had Arul Suppiah well caught down the leg side by Read and Broad returned for a much better second spell to see off Trescothick.

Nick Compton (46 not out) and Chris Jones (25 not out) then ground out an unbroken 70-run partnership for the third wicket, as Somerset closed on 197-2.

"The Kiwi star, 36 on Sunday, again impressed with the bat - clubbing Steve Kirby for three huge sixes on another day of compelling County Championship cricket.

"Typically, Adams paid tribute to a member of the opposition, saying that as far as the Notts dressing room is concerned, Marcus Trescothick is still the best English batsman around.

"Trescothick's 86 was a wonderful knock but, for the 40th time for county and country, he again fell short of reaching three figures at Trent Bridge, falling to a brute of a delivery from Stuart Broad."
