Half-centuries from William Bragg and James Allenby helped Glamorgan post 300-8 on an evenly balanced first day of their Division Two clash at Bristol.

Bragg (63) helped Glamorgan recover from the early loss of Gareth Rees before Allenby (78) shared 103 for the fifth wicket with Mark Wallace (42).

But they lost three wickets for 11 runs near the end as the hosts fought back.

Gloucestershire seamer David Payne ended with 3-46 as debutant James Fuller claimed his first dismissal.

CLOSE OF PLAY SUMMARY

BBC Wales cricket correspondent Edward Bevan:

"Glamorgan would have settled for a score of 300-8, this after they were put in and were 2-1 in the fifth over.

"Two partnerships, both of 103, stabilised the innings. Jim Allenby top scoring with 74 and Will Bragg made 63, passing 50 for the eighth time this season.

"Nick James also deputised effectively for skipper Alviro Petersen. He opened the batting and scored 40.

"Gloucestershire have chosen six seam bowlers for this game, Glamorgan have elected to go in with three and two experienced spinners. That may well turn out to be the more effective combination."
