Jersey's ICC game with Nigeria is abandoned

Sam de la Haye was 43 not out when rain stopped play

Jersey's cricketers have had their crucial ICC World Cricket League Division Six match with Nigeria postponed because of rain.

It is the second match Jersey have had a game abandoned in Malaysia, meaning a potential fixture pile-up for the team.

Jersey, who are second from bottom, faced bottom side Nigeria in a game they had to win if they wanted to stay in the division.

Jersey were 216-8 from 44 overs when the rain came down.

Dean Morrison had scored 46, Ben Stevens 48, and Sam de la Haye was 43 not out.

It means Jersey's match with Nigeria will be played on Thursday, the second reserve day in the event.

Jersey lost to Kuwait in their other re-arranged fixture on Monday.

"We've been playing good cricket in past few days but not had the breaks to turn them into victories," Jersey Cricket Board chief executive Chris Minty told BBC Sport.

"We're playing good enough cricket to beat any side here," he added.

Jersey have yet to win a match in the tournament and have been relegated in the last two tournaments that they have played.

"We just want to play full matches of cricket to show that we are good enough," Minty added.

Jersey are scheduled to play the hosts Malaysia on Wednesday and Fiji on Friday before a match on Sunday to decide their overall place in the event.
