Surrey's Matthew Spriegel & Chris Jordan extend deals until 2012

Surrey all-rounder Matthew Spriegel and fast bowler Chris Jordan have extended their deals by a further year, while Chris Schofield has left the club.

Spriegel, 24, impressed while playing in the CB40, hitting 424 runs at 53 and taking 11 wickets.

Jordan, 22, helped Surrey to secure promotion to the Division One, playing four County Championship games after suffering a back injury in 2010.

Former England leg-spinner Schofield, 33, departs the Oval after six seasons.

Barbados-born Jordan, who hit 71 to help Surrey to a vital win at Chelmsford against Essex in the penultimate game of last season, said he believes the current side will impress in the top flight.

"You've got a lot of international experience coming into a young side - it's a very good thing," he told BBC London 94.9.

"So I'm very happy to have signed the deal and get the process over and done with. It was nice to put in some solid performances and put in a strong end to my season."

Spriegel, who did not feature in the County Championship campaign, added: "I'm delighted, I've played for Surrey since I was nine so to have another year on the Surrey books and to try and break into that four-day side is really nice.

"Obviously it's frustrating not to play in any Championship cricket, that's what everyone gets judged on. Next year I'm really going to be trying get into that four-day side and cement a place.

"You look at the attacks of Durham, Nottinghamshire, and Somerset and they've got some great firepower. It's going to be a great test as a club to see where we are as a club."

Spriegel played in every game of Surrey's title-winning CB40 campaign along with Schofield, who scored 246 runs and took 17 wickets at an average of 23.11.

And Surrey manager Chris Adams was quick to praise the outgoing spinner, who played for England's Test and Twenty20 side.

"Chris has made a significant contribution during his time at the club and was a vital member of our victorious CB40 campaign last season.

"I have really enjoyed working with him and he has been a very popular member of the dressing room. He can be very proud of his achievements at Surrey and we wish him the best for the rest of his career."
