Chris Woakes is to miss the rest of England's one-day international series against India with a thigh strain and will be replaced by Graham Onions.

Woakes did not play in the England's first two one-day defeats, with the third of five taking place on Thursday.

Fellow seamer Onions last played for England in January 2010, external before suffering a serious back injury.

"He [Woakes] suffered the injury during practice on Sunday," read an England and Wales Cricket Board statement.

"Durham's Onions has been called up as a replacement and will join the England squad in Mumbai ahead of the fourth one-day international.

"Woakes will now undertake a rehabilitation period that rules him out of the remaining three one-day internationals."

Meanwhile England paceman Steven Finn believes the tourists need to dispel the suggestion that they cannot match World Champions India on their own pitches.

England beat them in all three formats on home soil earlier this year, external but have not won a one-day international series in India since 1984 and have again found the low, slow sub-continent pitches favouring the spin bowlers difficult to combat on this trip.

"We're aware the conditions are different here; the ball won't carry or move about as much as it does in England," Finn admitted.

"We also tend to face more spin here - which as English players, we're not particularly used to. But the challenge is to take it out of our minds, to leave that in the dressing-room - and when we go out on the pitch the basic principles of cricket remain true whatever the conditions.

"A fast bowler has to land the ball between six to eight metres, on the seam, and let the pitch do the rest.

"Those principles run true throughout cricket and the whole world."
