New Zealand's Jesse Ryder equalled the first-class record for most sixes in an innings when he smashed 16 against Australia A in Brisbane.

The batsman matched Australia's Andrew Symonds and England's Graham Napier in an innings of 175 off just 137 balls.

"The boys were saying it's pretty close to a world record so it's disappointing to not break it," said the 27-year-old.

Ryder also hit 11 fours on the small Allan Border Field as New Zealand scored 467-6 in their second innings.

It resulted in a lead of 495 and the tour match was declared a draw.

Ryder showed no mercy against a bowling attack that included opening batsmen David Warner and Ed Cowan, who was smashed for 28 runs in one over.

He was eventually caught by Nic Maddinson at square leg off Cowan.

"You get that close to a milestone like that, you don't get many chances and it's quite disappointing," he said.

"But I'm pretty happy with the way I went today. I got a few out of the middle and scored a few runs, so I'm pretty happy with where I'm at."

Symonds set the record for Gloucestershire against Glamorgan in 1995 and it was matched by Napier for Essex against Surrey in 2011.
