Dimitri Mascarenhas signs new Hampshire deal

Mascarenhas has scored 6,000 first class runs and taken 400 wickets for Hampshire

Hampshire all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas has agreed a new two-year deal.

The 34-year-old, who is the club's longest-serving player, will also captain the side in the Friends Life t20 competition.

Mascarenhas told BBC Radio Solent: "I had a tough year with injury but hopefully next year I can come back fitter and stronger.

"I've always wanted to stay here. I've never wanted to leave."

The England limited overs international suffered a serious Achilles injury playing for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League in 2010.

However, the former club captain is confident he can put his injury concerns behind him.

"There was a time where I worried I wasn't in a position to be offered a new deal," he added.

"It was tough and it took a lot of hard work but I think I showed with the ball in my hand that I'm worth a new contract."
