Jersey youngster Jonty Jenner signs for Sussex academy

Jersey cricketer Jonty Jenner is to join Sussex's youth section.

The 14-year-old wicket-keeper batsman is the son of former Jersey captain and vice-president of the Jersey Cricket Board Ward Jenner.

Jenner was seen by Sussex's scouts while playing in a cricket festival earlier this year.

"We've been impressed by the way he went about playing the game in the summer," said Sussex academy director Keith Greenfield.

"He has an excellent attitude towards the game and we look forward to him being a part of the Sussex family for many years to come," Greenfield added.

Jenner will still play matches for Jersey's junior teams in their international tournaments.

Jersey Cricket Board's chief executive, Chris Minty, hopes that Jenner's selection will help inspire more players on the island to aspire to a professional career.

"We are delighted that Jonty, who has been involved with our development programme for some years, has been selected by Sussex CCC to join their youth programme and we look forward to assisting and watching his progress in the future.

"We hope his progress will encourage some of our talented young players to work hard at their game."
