Pakistan v England: Onions and Trott shine as Pietersen struggles

England completed a 100-run victory in their final warm-up game ahead of the Test series against Pakistan.

Graham Onions did the early damage with three wickets as the Pakistan Cricket Board XI were bowled out for 150.

England had declared their second innings on 181-3, Jonathan Trott scoring 93, and then set about the Board's top order.

Chris Tremlett and Graeme Swann bagged two wickets each with Monty Panesar (3-46) wrapping up the tail.

Tremlett overcame an eye infection to keep himself in contention for a place in Tuesday's first Test line-up.

"It was pretty severe when I got here," he said. "It has improved, and I see the eye specialist pretty much every day.

"It hasn't affected my bowling too much. It's been more my batting and fielding side of things.

"I hope it will be fine in a couple of days' time."

The 6ft 7ins seamer admits he is an outsider to be selected.

"I guess I'm not expecting to play [in the first Test] but just waiting to see what happens.

"All I can do is put my name in the hat. I'm back fit and hope I will get selected."

England gave a confident performance with their second successive warm-up win before the start of the three-match series.

Trott and Strauss (62) began the final day well taking their opening stand to 130 and England made the third declaration of the match just before the scheduled lunch break.

Onions and Tremlett made good use of the new ball and the PCB XI were in trouble at 16-3.

Then England had to work much harder with Fawad Alam (51) and Usman Salahuddin persisting for a stand of 71.

But when Alam holed out to the off-spin of Kevin Pietersen England were on course for victory.

With two failures from three previous attempts, Trott's runs were especially valuable.

Promoted to open in place of an in-form Alastair Cook, the Test number three dealt confidently with everything he had to face.

Pietersen continued his run without a major score on tour by haplessly mis-sweeping for a simple catch looped to slip.
