Glamorgan seamer James Harris has undergone double hernia surgery that will keep him out of England Lions' February tour to Sri Lanka.

But the Welsh county expect the 21-year-old to be fit for Glamorgan's County Championship opener against Leicestershire on 5 April.

Harris has had a hernia operation in a bid to cure a groin problem that has been troubling him since last season.

"He's got pain when he bowls," Glamorgan coach Matthew Mott had said.

"He is 21 and he has bowled a hell of a lot of overs for his age.

"This enforced rest might be the best thing for his longevity over the next couple of years.

"He's going to look to get as strong and fit as he can and use his time wisely on the sidelines. He has got a lot of time now before the season starts.

"Fingers crossed he should be fit and strong and ready to go come our first game in April."

Harris, Glamorgan's second best wicket-taker behind spinner Dean Cosker last season, made his Glamorgan first team debut as a 16-year-old.

Harris, who has taken 211 first-class wickets at an average of 27.22 runs, is set to be out for four to six while he recovers from his double hernia surgery.
