County Championship Division Two, Grace Road

Close, day one: Leicestershire 249, Glamorgan 25-5

Leics 2pts, Glamorgan 3pts

Leicestershire fought back from an appalling start to end the day on top against visitors Glamorgan.

The home team lost Greg Smith and Jacques du Toit to the first two balls of the match, delivered by Huw Waters.

They were 1-3 when Waters had Matthew Boyce caught behind, but Ramnaresh Sarwan (41) and Claude Henderson (57 no) led a recovery to 249 all out.

Matthew Hoggard (2-10) and Robbie Joseph (2-15) then reduced Glamorgan to 25-5 at the close.

Edward Bevan's report

BBC Wales Cricket correspondent Edward Bevan:

"There will be statisticians all over the world wondering if any bowler has taken two wickets with the first two balls of a new season.

"This was achieved by Glamorgan's opening bowler Huw Waters and he followed up with another in his next over - three wickets in seven balls.

"but who then would have thought that Glamorgan would collapse in such alarming fashion at the start of their innings?

"When play got underway at 1100 BST, the temperature was nine degrees, not cricket weather, but what a day it turned out to be."
