England Lions v West Indies: James Taylor puts Lions in charge

England Lions captain James Taylor's hundred put his side in control on day two against West Indies at Northampton.

Taylor's 118 helped England Lions to 341 all out after resuming on 40-1 and they kept the lid on West Indies' reply to lead by 166 at the close.

The skipper shared a century stand with Jonny Bairstow (50) and added 130 with the last three batsmen.

Jack Brooks removed Adrian Barath and Kirk Edwards before the close to leave the West Indies 28-3.

The Lions were reduced to 55-2 in the morning session, with Nick Compton bowled by Kemar Roach for 21, before Taylor and Michael Carberry fought back.

But they then lost three wickets for six runs to slip to 98-5 shortly before lunch as the ball continued to seam and swing.

First, Carberry edged to Shivnarine Chanderpaul at first slip off Ravi Rampaul for 32 before Rampaul removed Ian Bell at the start of his next over for 21.

Samit Patel was the third of the trio to fall after he chipped a drive straight back into the hands of Shane Shillingford.

But Taylor and Bairstow put on 107 for the sixth wicket before Bairstow was caught at mid-off by Rampaul off Shillingford.

Taylor remained unmoved as the tail chipped in, notably number 11 Jade Dernbach who shared a 64-run stand, before the captain was finally removed to end the innings, caught behind down the leg side by Denesh Ramdin off Fidel Edwards after facing 179 balls.

Brooks then pinned Barath and number three Edwards lbw to take his match haul to five wickets on his home ground, while Matt Coles removed nightwatchman Fidel Edwards for a duck before the close.
